Godmothers assemble…

The Hairy Godmothers consists of a motley crew of Perth’s local creatives coming from a diverse array of backgrounds including lawyers, engineers, teachers, researchers, live venue managers, poets and musicians. With a very unique collective dynamic, each member of the Godmothers team contributes to every aspect of show construction from concept creation and writing to production and performing.

  • EMMA MACMILLAN

Emma’s background is in music, film directing and screen-writing, and acting (film and stage). Her enthusiasm for creating and performing therapeutic and hilarious content with The Hairy Godmothers expresses itself via her piano-playing antics, her deep, reflective writing, and her theatrical singing. She is especially fond of the troupe's production The Death Show, the next piece of art bound to take off at Fringe!

  • OWEN MERRIMAN

The instigator of The Hairy Godmothers’ existence, Owen endeavours to take his cheekiness to enchanting heights as he continually extends his huge stage persona 'THE Hairy Godmother' in Dizney in Drag: Once Upon a Parody. His managerial skills include constantly wowing the team with his awesomely over-engineered organisational spreadsheets and his "what if?" curiosities, ready to pounce at any moment. Quick, comical, and adventurously optimistic, this loveable larrikin is always up for a challenge and interactively pushes the envelope, merrily keeping those members of the audience (and cast) keenly on their toes.

  • ALEX NISSEN

The group's youngest member showcases her talents as a fantastic singer, an en-pointe physical-comedy performer, and an enthusiastic costume wrangler. Alex is no stranger to the stage, as both a performer, and from working within one of Perth's oldest live performance theatres for the duration of her adult life. She contributes her eye for detail and refined feedback and directorial critique of the team members’ performances in all stages of character development. Always aiming to keep facets of performance fresh, alive, and full of purpose, her stunning and natural ability to immerse herself in any character brings her immense talent to light.

  • BEN KAY

Ben is the technician who brings the sound and lighting to life but is also known to leave the tech desk to take his place on stage for the odd yoyo-wielding, shoe-flinging, or body-hair-promoting scenes. With a keen eye for comedy and a tight skill of tying up loose ends and making puzzle pieces fit beautifully, Ben’s illustrious talent as an award-winning slam poet and his rock-star reputation as a primary school science teacher conjures up a child-like and electric “can-do” magic that keeps the ball rolling and the audience rocking.

  • ASHLEY NISSEN

Professionalism is at the heart of what Ash brings to all the troupe's performances in all aspects of production. With a background in music, communications and events management, Ashley has impressively long-term experience managing one of Perth's most reputable live theatres. She provides an enthusiastic and curious outlook on all parts of production, from technical investigations to hitting the high notes on stage. Ashley's repertoire extends from power ballads to emanating radiance as a loveable lead character in The Hairy Godmothers' original piece of theatre The Death Show.

  • MITA HILL

The group’s favourite motivator and behind-the-scenes slayer of the red-tape nitty-gritty and legality razzle-dazzle. Mita’s overflowing energy and her ferocious values empower her to shine brightly on stage and uplift others in the group, as she infects them with her “yes, and?” attitude and her multi-talented heart and mind - not to mention her yet-to-be-unleashed treasure trove of circus and fire-spinning skills! Mita's thirst to provoke and intrigue an audience, whether that be with mischievous mime or quick-witted prowess, whets her will to perform whatever feat she endeavours.

  • JAE WEST

Jae brings her refined stage skills to the group: dancer, singer, choreographer, and experienced actor (signed with Actors Now). She grew up dancing and choreographing for the drag queens of Perth, sparking her interest and passion for being on the stage: glitter, sequins, and all! Jae plays the central character of ‘the hero’ in The Hairy Godmothers' jewel show Dizney in Drag: Once Upon a Parody, who ventures on a search for "true love" - perfectly equipped with puppy dog eyes, a curiosity to learn, and an insatiable desire for connection.

  • STEFAN TESTI

Stefan is a finely tuned human jukebox who not only knows how to sing and song-write but is also impressively tall in heels - not to mention a scintillating crowd pleaser. Stefan leaves no stone unturned as his artistry beautifully reflects the rewards reaped from his meticulous practice methods as a dedicated performer and the team’s marketing master. Provocative and ever-punctual, Stefan's unyielding passion for performing with The Hairy Godmothers only gets more and more explosive the closer the Fringe season comes, as preparing for the fans is often his favourite part! Tenacious, sharp, and devilishly naughty, his salacious timing and Guinness World Record hula-hooping hips are well versed in captivating his queendom of an audience.
